TASC guidelines for peripheral artery disease

An estimated 27 million people in Europe and North America suffer from peripheral artery disease (PAD) but only 25% of those patients undergo treatment.

We formed a strategic partnership with the TASC (Inter-Society Consensus for the Management of PAD) Guidelines authors to address the low diagnosis rate and raise standards of care for patients with this painful and debilitating disease.

We faced a number of challenges, but we are proud to have devised a solution that achieved the project goals and helped further TASC’s important work in the battle against this disease.

The challenge
Following successful publication of the TASC II Guidelines in 2007, the authors, who represent over 20 global and national professional cardiovascular societies, asked us to develop a creative, tactical solution to ensure widespread dissemination of these influential Guidelines to a diverse audience. In addition, we needed to drive funding acquisition to support this plan by engaging with multiple pharma/device companies.

The Medicus International solution

We produced a central hub website to host the Guidelines and all activities, alongside a long-term plan for evolving educational materials to support the rollout of the Guidelines. Materials included some very popular pocket guides, section summary documents and a range of other educational materials.

In collaboration with the TASC experts, we identified and approached key industry contacts to negotiate funding via sponsorship or through a grant application process. To facilitate this process, we developed an opportunities brochure demonstrating the cost–benefit of supporting the initiative, and we made sure that there were opportunities for all budget sizes.

The result
We successfully won unrestricted educational grants from nine industry-leading pharma and device companies – enough to fund the entire campaign for 2 years.

We deployed the full-feature TASC II website alongside a marketing plan to raise awareness of the site and an SEO strategy to ensure optimum visibility. This was a resounding success, with an average of 5590 page views

and 2400 document downloads per week for the first year, and a 200% increase in usage in the weeks following congress marketing campaigns.

We are now working with TASC to develop the third iteration of the Guidelines with the support of device and pharmaceuticals companies working in PAD today, so if you are interested in becoming involved, you can contact us and we will be delighted to speak with you.
